Helping people fills you with a sense of accomplishment. By helping others, you are improving someone else life and increasing your sense of purpose in yours.

Organizations in your community offer ways to help out. You can extend your help beyond the people you know. It is also way help in different ways that you may not have been capable of on your own.

Donations

When direct involvement is limited or not possible, donating is a way to be helpful. Research charities to find organizations you would like to help achieve their goals. Supporting causes doesn’t have to be a hands-on approach. Any way you can help is always appreciated.

Be a positive influence

Be the person to show the brighter side. It’s hard for some people to see the positive Be an example for people around you. Give others positive energy by being kind. By interacting with people to be generous and respectful can help another person feel better.

Be a giving person

Just like being a positive influence, being a giving person motivates people to be kinder. Receiving something from someone can be a highlight of the day. The joy of giving is contagious. Happiness is something people want to relive as much as they can. Once you start to spread happiness, others are more likely to join in.

Make sure you are ok first

The most important part of being helpful is being able to help. To be available you first, have to make sure you are ok first. As honorable it may seem to help people when you are also in need, it will become increasingly difficult to help others when you are in a difficult situation.

For example, if you are trying to help the homeless have shelter while you are losing your own home is not the best thing to do.

Be a problem solver

Be a fixer. Being helpful is having the ability to find solutions. Help people by giving advice tailored to them that solves their problems. Some problems can be solved by knowing where to direct someone to get the help they need.

Don’t Blame

There are times when telling someone they are wrong is not the best choice. Being direct can work sometimes and can also escalate things to the point the advice is not heard. Find creative ways to help someone see what was wrong without aggravating them. For instance, asking questions that will help someone to realize their part in the situation.
