How Women's History Month Started
by experiencehood | Mar 22, 2022Every year March is dedicated to Women’s History Month, and it’s when we as a nation show appreciation for women's contribution to the United States of America. With that being said, how many know how Women’s History Month started.
It started with an organized group, the Education Task Force of Sonoma County. In 1978, The Education Task Force of Sonoma County organized a week to popularize Women’s History Week. The Education Task Force of Sonoma County organized Women's History Week on the week of March 8, which is International Women’s Day. Two years later, President Jimmy Carter declared the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week.
In 1987, Congress extended Women’s History Week to a month, and from then on, the United States recognized March as Women’s History Month.
